JAMB REJECTS POST-MPCE EXAMINATIONS by Frank Oke
Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Tuesdday rejected post Monotechnic, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Examination (MPCE), conducted by some National Diploma (ND) and Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE)-awarding institution across the country.
Dibu Ojerinde, the Registrar of JAMB who disclosed this in Abuja during a consultative meeting of the policy committee on admissions to ND and NCE-awarding institutions, said the exercise was not acceptable.
“Permit me to express the Board’s dismay at some ND and NCE-awarding institutions that conduct post-Monotechnics, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Matriculation (P-MPCE) examinations”, he said.
“This is not acceptable to the Board. Screening exercise should only commence after the provisional admission rather than before, to determine a final admission by the institutions.”
He urged the institutions concerned in the recent Federal Government’s pronouncement on Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) to update their facilities in order to gain accreditation early.
Speaking at the occasion, Igwe Aja-Nwachukwu, Minister of Education commended the Federal Government’s pronouncement on the harmonization which will now allow Polytechnics and Colleges of Education award degrees.
According to him, government is aware of the exigencies of upgrading the facilities of those institutions to cope with the additional constraints that such responsibility imposes and should work towards that.
He also commended JAMB’s regularization drive which seeks to checkmate admission through the back door and which ensures that candidates must take the Monotechnics, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education matriculation examination to gain admission.
