Government to Enact Law on Female Education by Oge Okanu

The Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, disclosed in Minna yesterday at an interactive session with Chairpersons and Councilors of the 25 local government areas and 274 wards in the state that a legislation that would prevent parents from withdrawing their female children from school is under-way. Aliyu explained that when the law is enacted, it would become an offence for any parent or guardian to withdraw their female children from school for the purpose of early marriage or any other reason....

Governors, NUT agree on 27.5% Increment by Frank Oke

The Governors' Forum yesterday unanimously agreed to pay a 27.5 percent increment as benchmark to all the teachers in all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The Governors though acknowledged the need for payment of “specific allowances” to teachers, however stated that such “teaching inducement allowance” should be implemented for professional teachers only. They however noted that the Federal Government’s refusal to succumb to the NUT’s demand was due to the “Principle of Federalism”....

Yobe To Train 257 Science, Mathematics Teachers by Ngozi Onyekwelu

The Yobe State Government has approved the release of over N31 million for the training of 257 teachers in the Sciences and Mathematics at the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), Abuja. The training and retraining of the teachers is to produce more qualified science and maths teachers which has been identified by Yobe State Economic And Social Summit Group (YESSG) as the main antidote to the state’s development and delivery of education services in the state. Gov Daniel Seeks Return Of Schools To Missionaries

To inculcate good moral behaviuor in the country, the Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel has called for the return of schools to missionaries. The Governor, in a statement signed by his Press Officer, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya said that “all the references that we can make to good behaviour in schools seems to have been terminated when the missionaries left.”  Daniel, who spoke at the 60th birthday of the Archbishop of Lagos, Archbishop Ephraim Ademowo, held at the Muson Centre Lagos, also stressed the need for partnership between the church ...
